The IX th Asian Games were held at New Delhi from 19th November, 1982 to4th December, 1982 . India issued this 2 rupees coin on 19th November, 1982 to commemorate this event. Out of the other 4 coins issued on the same occasion, the 10 paise and 25 paise coins were issued for general circulation and the 10 rupees and the 100 rupees coins were issued as uncirculated / proof specimens.

Rev – The reverse of this coin shows the Asian Games ‘Logo’ – the ancientJANTAR-MANTAR observatory in Delhi with the SUN above it with ‘DELHI’ and ‘1982’ – the year of issue below it. The inscription ‘IX ASIAN GAMES’ in English is shown in the right periphery and ‘Nawam Asiyayee Khel’ in Hindi is shown in the left periphery.
